07: Navigating the holidays
Resources & events for caring for your mental health over the holidays + weekly feels.
Trying my best at being more consistent writing here these days regardless of my perfectionist brain! This week, I’ve gathered some resources for groups that could be helpful during the holiday season and post-election. With the holidays approaching, 2/3 of people report that their mental health is affected around the holidays. Even though the holidays are typically joyful and filled with connection, many people may not take the same measures to care for themselves during this time.
Here are a few ideas by Milestones that you can care for your mental health this season.
Therapy resources
A Journey of Emotional Discovery and Transformation: Free 1-hour workshop led by a therapist for wellness practitioners to pause, recharge and prioritize our emotional health. Bring a journal and a pen!
Navigate the Holidays group: Webinar for setting boundaries, facing stressful family dynamics, and navigating cultural or generational differences over the holidays led by Dr. Michelle Chung, PsyD of The Modern Asian Parent
Tending to Grief workshop: Holding space for grief during the holidays. Led by Steph Bayan, associate Marriage and Family Therapist at Solomon Therapy.
Election Support Group: Finding support to process thoughts and feelings in times of political transition. Provides a structured, non-partisan space to help you navigate these complex feelings while building resilience and connection. Led by therapist, Josh Boscarino.
Other ways to rest and recharge:
RecCreate Collective's events— Space to make art, crafts and connect. From knitting, jewelry making, collage creating— there’s so many different creative projects to choose from to let yourself unwind and work with your hands. You’ll leave making a few new friends too.
Virtual Journaling Workshop: Gratitude & Grounding for the Holidays: Journaling Classes is hosting a workshop to help you reconnect with gratitude, establish boundaries, and make room for connection and self care.
Weekly Feels
Listen: A rotation of songs I’ve been listening to. Mostly peaceful, indie, ambient a la Spotify’s genre. Playlist here :)
Watch: Anora, one of the most captivating and hilarious movies I’ve seen this year. Made me feel a crazy, wide range of emotions and I’ll leave it at that.
Read: “It’s Time to Quit Your Therapist” article for Byline by Deelia Cai. An interesting article to read as both a new therapist and from a client perspective.
Taste: This pumpkin basque cheesecake from the Big Night Book is on the list to make this week for Thanksgiving. Truly can’t wait for the sugar coma to hit!
XO,
Erica
